Bude 2022 World Surf Kayak Championships

As 2021 closes we just wanted to provide you with an update on the plans and schedule for the 2022 World Championships of Surfkayaking being held in beautiful Bude from 29 September to 9 October 2022.  

Location(s)  

To maximise quality of waves available to us during the competition we have decided to position judging towers at 2 locations; 

1. Crooklets and Middlebeach. Within walking distance of Bude town centre, Crooklets and Middlebeach provide us with 2 peaks of high-quality beach break through most of the tide, alongside access to Bude Surf Lifesaving Club for shower, changing and logistic facilities.  

2. Black Rock at Widemouth Bay. Located 3 miles south of Bude town, Black Rock has 2 main peaks that work through the tide, a lefthand reef and a high-quality a-frame backbreak. Black Rock will typically be surfable when Bude town is mazed out, with the reef holding substantial size.  
    

Schedule for 2022  

By February 1st – a full list of recommended accommodation will be provided to the community through our website. Working with Bude Tourist Information Centre we are putting together a list of accommodation providers offering special rates for the period of the contest (or longer) to suit all needs and budgets.  

23rd and 24th April – The annual Shoreline Surf kayak Festival is being held at Black Rock providing competitors with another opportunity to compete at one of the locations for the World Championships. Competitors may find out more information and register here.  

May 1 – individual competitor registration opens on Tournr. Initially individuals will be limited to 2 divisions.  

June 1 – team competitor registration opens on Tournr. 

June 31st – all first-round entries close (Team and Individuals). Depending on the level of signup we may open a later round of registration and allow individuals to enter more divisions (to be advised).  

September 29 – On-site registration, boat-check (AM) and opening ceremony.  

September 30 to October 9 – World Championships of Surf kayaking competition.  

October 9 – Closing party at Widemouth Manor.  

(We will try to stick to these dates but will update you if anything changes, as we are still early in the games – particularly regarding the ongoing global pandemic.) 
 

As we get closer to the contest, we will keep you updated and provide you with more information about the event, our supporters, and our beautiful town to help you to prepare for your journey to 2022 World Championships of Surf kayaking.

Al cierre de 2021, solo queríamos brindarles una actualización sobre los planes y el calendario para el Campeonato Mundial de Surfkayaking de 2022 que se llevará a cabo en la hermosa Bude del 29 de septiembre al 9 de octubre de 2022.  

Ubicación (es)  

Para maximizar la calidad de las olas disponibles para nosotros durante la competencia, hemos decidido colocar torres de jueces en 2 ubicaciones;  

1. Crooklets y Middlebeach. A poca distancia del centro de la ciudad de Bude, Crooklets y Middlebeach nos brindan 2 picos de playa de alta calidad durante la mayor parte de la marea, junto con el acceso al Bude Surf Lifesaving Club para duchas, vestuarios e instalaciones logísticas.  

2. Black Rock en Widemouth Bay. Ubicado a 3 millas al sur de la ciudad de Bude, Black Rock tiene 2 picos principales que funcionan a través de la marea, un arrecife a la izquierda y un backbreak en forma de a de alta calidad. Por lo general, Black Rock se podrá surfear cuando la ciudad de Bude esté abarrotada, y el arrecife tendrá un tamaño considerable.  

Calendario 2022  

Para el 1 de febrero, se proporcionará a la comunidad una lista completa de los alojamientos recomendados a través de nuestro sitio web. Trabajando con el Centro de Información Turística de Bude, estamos elaborando una lista de proveedores de alojamiento que ofrecen tarifas especiales para el período del concurso (o más) para satisfacer todas las necesidades y presupuestos.  

23 y 24 de abril: el Festival anual de kayak de surf Shoreline se lleva a cabo en Black Rock, lo que brinda a los competidores otra oportunidad de competir en una de las ubicaciones para los Campeonatos del Mundo. Los competidores pueden encontrar más información y registrarse aquí.  

1 de mayo: se abre el registro de competidores individuales en Tournr. Inicialmente, los individuos estarán limitados a 2 divisiones.  

1 de junio: se abre el registro de competidores del equipo en Tournr.  

31 de junio: cierran todas las inscripciones de la primera ronda (equipos e individuales). Dependiendo del nivel de registro, podemos abrir una ronda de registro posterior y permitir que las personas ingresen a más divisiones (para ser informado).  

29 de septiembre: registro en el lugar, revisión del barco (AM) y ceremonia de apertura.  

30 de septiembre al 9 de octubre – Competición del Campeonato del Mundo de Surf en kayak.  

9 de octubre – Fiesta de clausura en Widemouth Manor.  

(Intentaremos ceñirnos a estas fechas, pero lo actualizaremos si algo cambia, ya que todavía estamos en las primeras etapas de los juegos, en particular con respecto a la pandemia global en curso).  

A medida que nos acerquemos al concurso, lo mantendremos actualizado y le brindaremos más información sobre el evento, nuestros seguidores y nuestra hermosa ciudad para ayudarlo a prepararse para su viaje hacia el Campeonato Mundial de Surf en kayak 2022.
