2022 Worlds competition entry details:

Team entry notes:

Team managers / representatives will need to sign up their team by 30th June including the number of classes that paddlers will enter (12 or less heat entrants represent a ‘small team’ and above 12 heat entrants represents a large team).

However, it will be possible for representatives to change the team members themselves after June 30 to allow flexibility in selection (particularly given the impact of the pandemic on national team selection processes), but it will not be possible to change the team entry from ‘small’ to ‘large’ or vice versa. there is a limit on 12 teams at the event so please get your entries in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Individual entry notes:

There are multiple classes available to any and every individual. At 2022 World Championships we have increased the number of classes from 10 to 18 in order to improve inclusivity and encourage the participation of younger and female paddlers in particular.

We have added male and female “new age” classes to support paddlers leaving the junior division up until their 23rd birthday, including the junior paddlers who were unfortunately affected by the postponement of this event last year.

We have increased the number of female-exclusive classes from 2-8, recognising the importance of diversity in our sport. All woman over the age of 40 may enter the Woman’s Masters category, Open Grandmasters and Woman’s open categories.

Working with the WSKA committee we have made significant progress in increasing inclusivity and access and look forward to seeing many new exciting divisions battling it out for their own World title!

Initially we allow a maximum of 2 classes per entrant up to a maximum of 200 individuals and may relax this restriction and open for a second round of registrations if we are able.

We recommend you enter as soon as you can as places are filling up fast. Entry deadline 30th June.

Bude location:

Bude in a remote area of North Cornwall, an hour or so from most other big towns. As you can see there are many airports nearby but not all flights fly direct from international destinations to the closest airports which are Newquay, Exeter, Bristol, Bournemouth. It is possible to arrange connecting flights from London airports to others. But please check this when you book and make sure they will transport your surf craft also as some may not or might charge.

Bude is in a remote part of North Cornwall. To participate in the contest and to find waves to free surf, we recommend you hire a car from the airport. Please consider car- sharing if you know of other friends or family traveling also.

Driving from London Heathrow to Bude will take approximately around 5-6hrs (depending on traffic and time of day). We have good motorway roads if you travel the south west following the M4/M5/A30 to Bristol then Exeter OR you could travel the more scenic/ country route M3/ A303/ A30 past Salisbury which again still has good road quality but there are more single lane areas. This route takes you past the iconic Stonehenge and is a perfect place to stop for refreshments and a couple of hours of sight seeing along the way.

Continental travel via ferry to Portsmouth( Poole) international port is possible. Offering many routes to/ from France, Spain or the Channel Islands. Directferries.co.uk Other ferry routes are available from Plymouth which is 1-1:5 hrs drive from Bude but check your travel dates carefully as they don’t run everyday. Portsmouth is only a 3- 4 hrs drive from Bude ( depending on traffic and time of day again).

It is possible to take a coach ride from London to Exeter and bus from Exeter to Bude. But you would need to check with the coach/ bus companies they will take your kayaks especially if their is a few of you together. They may not, especially the smaller buses.

We do not recommend traveling by train. They will not allow kayaks onto the trains. Without kayaks the journey is very good from London to Exeter. But you would need to then get a bus or taxi from Exeter to Bude which will take 1-1:5hrs. ( buses and taxi’s are not always available).
