Bude Location:

Bude in a remote area of North Cornwall, an hour or so from most other big towns. As you can see there are many airports nearby but not all flights fly direct from international destinations to the closest airports which are Newquay, Exeter, Bristol, Bournemouth. It is possible to arrange connecting flights from London airports to others. But please check this when you book and make sure they will transport your surf craft also as some may not or might charge.

Bude is in a remote part of North Cornwall. To participate in the contest and to find waves to free surf, we recommend you hire a car from the airport (or travel with your own using the ferries). Please consider car- sharing if you know of other friends or family traveling also.

Driving from London Heathrow to Bude will take approximately around 5-6hrs (depending on traffic and time of day). We have good motorway roads if you travel the south west following the M4/M5/A30 to Bristol then Exeter OR you could travel the more scenic/ country route M3/ A303/ A30 past Salisbury which again still has good road quality but there are more single lane areas. This route takes you past the iconic Stonehenge and is a perfect place to stop for refreshments and a couple of hours of sight seeing along the way.

Continental travel via ferry to Portsmouth( Poole) international port is possible. Offering many routes to/ from France, Spain or the Channel Islands. Directferries.co.uk Other ferry routes are available from Plymouth which is 1-1:5 hrs drive from Bude but check your travel dates carefully as they don’t run everyday. Portsmouth is only a 3- 4 hrs drive from Bude ( depending on traffic and time of day again).

It is possible to take a coach ride from London to Exeter and bus from Exeter to Bude. But you would need to check with the coach/ bus companies they will take your kayaks especially if their is a few of you together. They may not, especially the smaller buses.

We do not recommend traveling by train. They will not allow kayaks onto the trains. Without kayaks the journey is very good from London to Exeter. But you would need to then get a bus or taxi from Exeter to Bude which will take 1-1:5hrs. ( buses and taxi’s are not always available).
